Read James 1 : 5 – 8, If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
Read Matthew 17 : 20, He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.”
These two Bible verses got me confused. One tells that if you even doubt a little bit he or she should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. The other one says that faith as little as a mustard seed is enough to move a mountain. This doesn’t match right?
For many days, this thought was in my mind that these Bible verses are contradicting. I was using my brain to tap into this. My head was saying that there is something wrong but deep inside there was a feeling that there should be some deeper meaning to these verse.
So, I decided to go to the Lord and ask about this. The first realization that I got when sat in the presence of the Lord is that we should never try to understand the Word of God with our human wisdom. With our shallow human wisdom we will never be able to understand the Scriptures. We always need the help of the Holy Spirit to understand the Word of God.
It is definitely a topic for discussion but we will discuss about it later. So, let me come back to the above given verses.
As I started meditating on these verses I suddenly remembered about a message someone once spoke about mustard seed kind of faith. He was explaining about the features of a mustard seed. When that came to mind I decided to do a small research on it.
Although I came across many explanations, one that struck my mind is about one of the unique features of a mustard seed. It is this a mustard seed is whole, that means it is complete, it doesn’t have space inside it. It doesn’t have areas of incompleteness inside it. A mustard seed is a complete seed, it is full.
So, that’s what Jesus was trying to say. Even if our faith is very small, it should be as complete and whole as a mustard seed. Now, both the above given verses are making sense right.
So, don’t make it complicated. If we need to receive anything from the Lord we should have faith. Even if it is in the smallest of size as that of mustard seed it is ok but it should be as whole and full and complete as a mustard seed. If you even waver a little bit you should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
So, that makes it easy. To move (move the mountains) the hand of the Lord you don’t need mountain size of faith. Faith as small a mustard seed is enough.
God bless you.
